Merci Flowers & Gifts

Taniel from Merci Flowers & Gifts

1. How did you get started in the flower industry?
I have always loved flowers, and was introduced to the business when I started helping my mother in law out in her business which she had run and for 15 years. I had my daughters very close in age and it was an opportunity to have the flexibility of my own business yet still find passion in something I loved. My mother and I partnered together and since that moment I haven’t turned back, it is our happy place. Family run and very close to our hearts.

2. What is the biggest challenge facing the floral industry?
The larger retail outlets, who get the economies of scale through buying in bulk and are able to undercut our prices, but I still believe a loyal client will always choose services and reliability over price.

3. Where do you look for inspiration?
There is such a wealth of gorgeous and clever ideas on social media. I also look to the flowers and clients as they themselves they sometimes have such personality of their own.

4. How did you develop your signature style?
We have always wanted to make sure our arrangements are filled with the personal touch and stick to a very rustic and earthy theme.

5. What attracted you to the flower industry?
The sheer love of flowers, and the opportunity to meet and form personal relationships with clients in all aspects of their loves, happy sad, hopeful etc.

6. How do you plan on growing your business within the next 5 years?
I would love to extend my gifting options and online business as well as grow my corporate client business.

7. How has Bloomable changed your business?
The system is modern, user friendly and gives me even larger access to customers within my neighborhood.

8. Knowing what you know now, would you say it was the right decision?
Most definitely joining the group has grown my business to new levels.

9. How has the florist industry changed over the past 10 years in SA?
It has become more competitive, and only the good florists will survive, with service being the most important survival tool and this can only be done by creating a lasting impression.

10. How do you see Bloomable and your business working together in the future?
I would love to be the top JHB based florist and come up with products totally unique to our partnership and maybe extend to opening more Johannesburg stores.
