Brakpan is a mid-sized mining city located to the southeast of Johannesburg in Gauteng province.

Brakpan comes by its name from English settlers who noticed that the nearby pan became dark and brackish as the dry season set in. Though it began as a farm, coal and gold were both discovered nearby, and at the turn of the century the town quickly grew up into a major mining centre. Today the city is home to just over 73,000 residents, almost half of whom speak Afrikaans.

Today Brakpan is perhaps best known as the home of Carnival City Casino and Entertainment World, a large entertainment complex with a variety of activities for the whole family to try. Adults will enjoy casino gaming, shopping and fine dining in one of several onsite restaurants, and younger guests can see a movie, play laser tag and have fun in a classic arcade. There's also a babysitting service to keep younger children occupied while parents enjoy a night out. Families can even make a weekend of the trip by spending a night at the hotel.
