Lowveld Legogote lies at the foot of the Mpumalanag mountains and includes the provincial capital of Nelspruit.
Nelspruit, or Mbombela, is located on the Crocodile River, just 65km west of Mozambique. This city of 55,000 residents is a major cultural center in the region and the home of the new University of Mpumalanga. It also houses two airports and a football/rugby complex enjoyed by many sports fans.
The area's beautiful landscapes are highlighted in the Lowveld National Botanical Garden, which features cascading waterfalls and rainforest plants along the riverbanks. The Suwala Caves are another major attraction, allowing visitors to explore gorgeous rock formations underground. Nature lovers will want to visit the quaint town of Kaapsehoop, where rare blue swallows nest and wild horses roam.
For delicious meals in Lowveld Legogote, try Nelspruit's oldest restaurant: Costa do Sol. This Portuguese restaurant offers a romantic atmosphere and is a local favorite. More great meals can be found in the small town of White River, where the Bundu Lodge and Grill serves up modern fare in sight of the Drakensberg Mountain Range. Magnolia Restaurant offers more fine dining with fresh, French-inspired dishes.
