The South Coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal stretches along the eastern coast of South Africa, from Durban to the start of the Wild Coast.
Beginning on the coast at Port Edward, the South Coast extends up the coast to Amazimtoti and inland to Kokstad and Ixopo. Margate, Port Shepstone, Scottburgh and Ramsgate are some of the towns inside the area. Being a coastal region, it is abundant in beautiful beaches, often of Blue Flag status.
With its sub-tropical vegetation the region boasts an abundance of birdlife, and over 400 species have been recorded along the coastline. Small nature reserves in the South Coast include the Oribi Gorge, Umtamvuna, Mpenjati and Vernon Crookes, where you can enjoy the bird and wildlife.
Commercially and regarding the industry sector, there are two big shopping malls along the coast: the Galleria in Amanzimtoti and the Shelly Centre in Shelly Beach. Both of these malls have movie theatres and the Galleria even has an ice rink. There are also many smaller centres in towns throughout the region. Most of the agriculture of the region is dominated by sugar cane farming and nuts.
