Tzaneen is a big town in the province of Limpopo in South Africa, forming a part of the Mopani District Municipality.
Being Limpopo’s second largest town after Polokwane, the area is usually named as a ‘tropical garden’ because of its rich and beautiful vegetation and scenery, due to the high rainfall found in this fertile region.
Interestingly, Tzaneen produces nearly forty percent of the country’s avocado pears and forty percent of the country’s mangoes. They also produce twenty percent of South Africa’s bananas and ninety percent of the nation’s tomatoes, being the 40th largest tomato producer in the entire world. This makes the town a massive agricultural centre of trade.
The widespread tropical garden town has a population of around 30 000 people, but the greater area holds 650 000 people in a 30 kilometre radius. Visitors will be astounded by the town’s vast agricultural sources, and will be able to eat anything from avocado pears, to nuts and citrus fruits, or mangoes and litchis, coffee, tea and even feel Tzaneen’s fine cotton.
