Volksrust is an agricultural town in the province of Mpumalanga in South Africa.
Sitting on the border of the Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal provinces, the town is only 240 kilometres from Johannesburg, the nearest major metropolitan.
The town was founded in 1888, after many conflicts and wars in the area, including an important skirmish during the Boer war that left many Boer women and children injured or dead. However, despite this dark history, Volksrust has become a great producer in its nation.
Volkrust is now known for its beef, dairy, maize, sorghum, wool and sunflower seed industries, making it a major centre for agricultural trade in South Africa.
