Westridge is a suburb west of Durban, the major port in KwaZulu-Natal on the Indian Ocean.
The farther west one moves from the center of Durban, the quieter the neighborhoods become. Indeed, Westridge features winding streets and larger lots than its immediate eastern neighbor Bulwer. The western border of Westridge is the M10 and the small Mkhumbane River. The neighborhood is bordered on the south by one of the campuses of the large University of KwaZulu-Natal. This institution was formed by the merger of major universities in the region and is still in the process of reorganization.
The nearby campus adds a vibrancy to the community as well as cultural offerings like performances at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre on campus. St. Henry's Marist College is another educational institution in the neighborhood. Aside from the many educational opportunities in Westridge, the Entabeni Hospital is also a major employer in town.
Though Westridge is tiny, it does feature some lovely local shops. For example, The Deco Collection is a small arts and crafts store featuring unique, handmade items. Flavours Catering and Fingerlicious Halaal Platters offer great local dining as well.
